Keeping a Joy List
In an effort to do more things that make me happy, I started keeping a Joy List. It’s easy to do. Sit down for about 10 minutes and write down a list of things that make you happy. These should be activities that you will always enjoy and will never become a chore to do. For example, here’s some of the items on my Joy List:
- play guitar
- talk to my girlfriend
- listen to music
- read for pleasure
- eat homecooked food from my mom
- drink press pot coffee
Once you have your list, post it somewhere that you’ll see everyday. Then everyday, make it a habit to do at least 3 things from your Joy List. As time goes on, you can add or erase entries from the list, but make it a point to do 3 things on the list everyday. You’ll be a happier person.

i remember seeing a handwritten list on your closet door, and i started a similar thing a long time ago. albeit, my list has only changed a few times in the past two years (mostly because i don’t revise it on a frequent basis), but it’s basically a list of things that make me happy. i keep the list by my closet mirror, so i look at it every day at some point. i may not dooo the things–or even some of them–in a given day, but just being reminded of them is a nice way to start the morning. the list includes favorite moments, hobbies, and random stuff that always makes me smile.
ps: i am such a fanatic of your blog. i should stop commenting so much. i may start to look needy….
I really expected ice cream to be on your list. I trust that it has made the cut.
If I eat ice cream three times a day, I would have to cut it from the list at some point. It seems that “If it makes you happy/It can’t be that bad” doesn’t work out with high fat content.
Ice cream is on my list. Though, the unavailability of Graeter’s has made it less appealing. That said, I’m not against being fat and happy.
Graeter’s black raspberry chip, mmm…….
